Science meets wisdom
Functional medicine asks the question conventional medicine often doesn't: why is this happening? We look at the whole person, your biochemistry, your nervous system, your habits, your history, and with your goals in mind, build a path forward that is uniquely yours.
Root-Cause Investigation
We go beyond symptom management to consider the underlying drivers of your health challenges - whether that's gut dysfunction, hormonal imbalance, chronic infection, inflammation, sleep disruption, high toxic load, nutrient depletion, chronic stress, unresolved trauma and/or nervous system dysregulation.
Personalized Protocols
No two people are the same. Every recommendation is tailored to your unique biology, lifestyle, and goals.
Mind-Body Integration
Your brain and body are in constant conversation. We work with both to create lasting, meaningful change.
Nervous System Focused
We recognize that the nervous system is at the center of how we feel, function, and heal. Every protocol is designed with your nervous system's capacity in mind.
Trauma & Abuse-Informed
We understand that unresolved stress and trauma shape health in profound ways. Our approach is gentle, paced, and always respectful of your lived experience.

Meet your practitioner
Lauren Smallcomb
As a Registered Nurse turned Nutritional Therapist and Mind-Body Practitioner, Laurens walked the bridge between conventional, holistic and functional medicine. She knows what it's like to look for answers and feel like the system isn't designed to help you. That's what motivates her to bridge these worlds, creating a space where science and lived experience meet, and where optimal wellness is defined by you, not a textbook.
Your path to flourishing
A clear, supported journey from where you are towards where you want to be
Free Consultation
We start with a conversation: your history, your goals, your symptoms, what's working and not working.
Personalized Protocol
A tailored plan covering nutrition (what to focus on, what to reduce) supplements, lifestyle, movement, and mind-body support.
Deep Assessment
Comprehensive intake, functional lab recommendations and review, personal genome testing and application and root-cause analysis.
Ongoing Support
Regular follow-up sessions to review your progress and refine your protocol as you heal, plus ongoing text support so you always have access to your practitioner between appointments.
Testing your genetic profile
Getting your genetic profile is simpler, and less expensive, than most people expect, and you only need to do it once in your lifetime! Your genes don't change, so this is a powerful one-time investment in understanding your biology that informs your health decisions for life.
FIRST:
Order an at home test kit
We use raw genetic data from direct-to-consumer DNA testing services. If you've already done a test through companies like 23andMe or AncestryDNA, you have everything we need. If not I will recommend a company to order from. No doctor's referral, no lab visit, no needles. You simply provide a cheek swab sample, mail it back, and receive your results within weeks.
SECOND:
Receive results
Once your raw data is available, you download it from the testing platform and share it with Lauren. From there she runs it through software that look specifically at the functional SNPs — single nucleotide polymorphisms — most relevant to your specific health picture. This is where the real insight lives, because standard DNA reports from 23andMe only scratch the surface of what your raw data can tell you.
THIRD:
Meet with Lauren
You will be walked through a comprehensive report based of your genes and their implications in multiple areas, focusing on the highest priority areas based on your symptoms and conditions.
FORTH:
Leave with a highly customized protocol
At the end of your assessment, you receive a comprehensive personalized protocol, a step-by-step document that translates your history, symptoms, labs, and genetic data into clear, actionable recommendations covering nutrition, supplements, sensitivities, exercise, and lifestyle.
Who is this testing for?
Genetic analysis is particularly valuable if you are managing chronic illness, have tried many protocols without lasting results, experience multiple seemingly unrelated symptoms or want to move beyond guesswork and build a health strategy grounded in your own unique biology. Not only is a powerful tool for recovery, it is also excellent at prevention and health optimization.
What do you get from it?
A genetic analysis with Lauren gives you a clear, personalized picture of:
Which nutrient deficiencies you're genetically predisposed to
Where your detoxification and antioxidant pathways have gaps
How your nervous system is wired to respond to stress
Why certain supplements or dietary approaches may not have worked for you in the past, or have made you feel worse
What targeted support your body specifically needs to heal and regulate
How your body metabolizes and clears hormones, and whether hormonal imbalance has a genetic driver
How efficiently your body clears histamine, and whether your genes are contributing to reactivity, food sensitivities, or MCAS
How your brain produces, uses, and breaks down neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and adrenaline, and what that means for mood, anxiety, pain tolerance, and stress resilience
Whether your cardiovascular system has specific vulnerabilities around cholesterol oxidation and inflammation that warrant proactive nutritional support
Which medications are more likely to be effective, and which may be poorly tolerated or metabolized, based on how your liver enzymes process specific drug compounds (pharmacogenomics)

What is Functional Medicine and Nutrition and how is it different?
As an RN who worked in the Emergency Department for 10 years I can attest that conventional medicine is excellent in a crisis, but often fails to successfully address the health needs of those with chronic or unexplained symptoms. Functional medicine asks why — why is the symptom there in the first place? We look at the whole person: your nutrition, gut health, movement, nervous system, stressors, lifestyle, and history. Every protocol we create is personalized to you, not your diagnosis.
Can I do Functional Nutrition alongside my current medical treatment?
Yes, our services are designed to complement, not replace, conventional medical care. We work alongside your existing healthcare team to support your healing from a nutritional and mind-body perspective. We always recommend keeping your doctor informed of any supplements or dietary changes.
What is NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback and is it safe and effective?
NeurOptimal® is an advanced brain training system that gives your brain real-time feedback about its own electrical activity. It doesn't push or direct the brain — it simply provides information, and the brain uses that to self-correct naturally. It is considered very safe, gentle and effective in supporting a wide-range of challenges. No diagnosis is needed and it's suitable for kids and adults. Check out our neurofeedback page to learn much more about this powerful modality. (Note: Neurofeedback is only available for local clients)
Are sessions in person or online?
Nutritional therapy and mind-body coaching sessions are available both in-person in Chiang Mai and online via Zoom, so you can work with us from anywhere in the world. NeurOptimal® neurofeedback sessions are conducted in-person at our office, though home rental units are available for those who live in the US.
How long does it take to see results?
This varies from person to person depending on your health history, the complexity of your concerns, how consistently you're able to apply the recommendations and external constraints in your life. Many clients notice meaningful shifts within 4–6 weeks. Deeper, lasting change — especially for longstanding conditions — typically unfolds over 3–6 months. We reassess regularly and adjust your protocol as you progress.
Do you offer payment plans or packages?
Yes — we offer session packages that provide better value and results for those committed to an ongoing program. In some cases, we offer payment plans and a discounted rate for those with financial difficulty. Details and pricing are discussed during your free consultation so we can match you with the option that suits your goals and budget.
What clients have had to say
"Lauren was able to reassure me, help me feel heard, and gave me practical and manageable tools to begin healing my body. I have lots more energy and the brain fog is gone. I am working full time now and I can see a noticeable improvement over previous years that I never noticed needed help before. Thanks for your help in that really scary and murky beginning. All in all very thankful!"
Male Client, Chiang Mai
"Lauren, the process you’ve walked me through has helped me feel remarkably better. I haven’t felt this much energy in ages. And not having so many digestive problems is really great. I am actually losing weight without exerting so much effort. It feels so good to understand my body and mind, and know how to support myself in such a powerful way."
Female Client, United States
"Working with Lauren has been life-changing. When I began working with her I was really struggling with my health as my autoimmune disease was really affecting my daily life. From brain fog to fatigue, to hair loss to several other issues. Working with Lauren has really rocked my whole world. Her direction has helped me live a healthier, fuller life. I feel hopeful, joyful and so so thankful!"
Female Client, Chiang Mai
"As a therapist, I never imagined I would or could experience this level of healing and growth. Before starting the program, I was anxious, irritable, on edge, and so much more. After completing the program, I’ve no longer experienced much of the symptoms I did in the past and I’ve gained the coping skills to confidently cope with whatever comes up. The amount of pain and inflammation I feel in my joints has really changed. I was in such a hypersensitive, sympathetic state at the start of the program and would become so easily irritated. This led to constant flare-ups of inflammation in my body that would occur at least once a day. Towards the end of our sessions, it had only occurred once, maybe twice, in the past two months. And when it happens, I no longer fight it. I try my best to take an observant, nonjudgmental stance. Lauren was so supportive, empathetic, knowledgeable, and encouraging along my healing journey."
